The Garden - No Sweet Corn This Year

The Poultry Win Big

The chickens got all of our sweet corn this year because the ears did not fill out properly.  I'm not sure what happened.  We planted two boxes of corn (4X8) with three rows each box.  The plants were 12 inches apart.  There was lots of wind to pollenate them.  But there was an interruption in watering just as pollenation should have taken place and the plants dried out quite a bit.  This is what I suspect went wrong.

Another possibility: I used old seed.  But I would expect that to effect germination more than the filling out of the ears.

Any insights would be welcome!

I am about to make sheaves of the corn stalks for decorations on the front porch.
