Feline Bachelor Farmers
The end of the coyote feeding program
These are the four barn cats that take care of our tack and tack room every night. The first is Sox. At five years old, he is the oldest. He came with three brothers who have all disappeared. He looks like a Maine Coon Cat.
The next is Winkin. He is about four years old. He came with a brother and a sister who have both disappeared. He is what people out here call a "Tuxedo Cat".
This is Joker. He is Winkin's nephew. He is about three years old. He has a spooky black and white face.
Last is Nodkin. He is shy so I don't have a picture of him. He is also Winkin's nephew and Joker's cousin, although they were raised as brothers when Nod, his Mom disappeared when he was still tiny. His Auntie Blinkin raised two litters of kittens by herself. There were thirteen of them. She and her sister had the kittens a day apart and they put them all in one nest together. They took turns feeding and washing them until Nod disappeared, Then Blinkin was on her own. Shortly after weaning the kittens she disappeared as well.So we don't have kittens any more. We have neutered the bachelors and we lock them in at night so the coyotes can't get them. So far it seems to be working.
